Juilliard Calendar 2023-24 – The Juilliard String Quartet (JSQ) is celebrating its 75th anniversary this season and has named violist Molly Carr to its ensemble. She joins violinists Areta Zhulla and Ronald Copes and cellist Astrid Schween. The quartet's former violist, beloved Roger Tapping, passed away from cancer in January 2022.

JSQ members serve as faculty at the institution, leading master classes, coaching, and private instruction on campus, on tour, and with the Fellows at the Tanglewood Music Center.

Juilliard Calendar 2023-24

Molly Carr is on the Pre-College faculty at the Juilliard School, and with this appointment she joins the college faculty. She also serves on the faculties of the Manhattan School of Music and the Bard College Conservatory. Carr has received numerous international awards, including the Primrose International Viola Competition, Chamber Music America, the ProMusicis Foundation, and the Davidson Institute.

"I am honored and so grateful to be joining the Juilliard String Quartet, an ensemble that I have looked up to and been inspired by throughout my musical life," said Carr. "It is such an incredible privilege to be invited to join my late mentor and friend Roger Tapping in continuing the highly revered, decades-long traditions of this historic quartet, and to have the opportunity to immerse myself in some of the greatest musicians in the world on a daily basis with colleagues and friends like Areta, Ron and Astrid is truly a dream come true. I can't wait to get started!"

Founded in 1946, the Juilliard String Quartet is known for commissioning new works by composers such as Lembit Beecher and Mario Davidovsky. The upcoming season features the premiere of two quartets by the composers Jörg Widmann.

"The Juilliard String Quartet has had an unparalleled impact since its founding 75 years ago. Through successive generations of musicians, the quartet has created music from every era to life," said Juilliard President Damian Woetzel. "Now, following the passing of Roger Tapping, we welcome a new voice to this continuum, Molly Carr, and it is especially meaningful to know how she comes to this role with all the energy and enlightenment left to her by Roger, who was a mentor and inspiration."

NEW YORK (March 16, 2022)––Continuing the festivities for Dance's 70th anniversary this year, Spring Dances presents 2022, this year honoring female composers and choreographers. Spring Dances 2022 offers five performances, March 23-26 at the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre.

"We are excited to showcase our students' hard work and artistry with these upcoming performances," said Alicia Graf Mack, dean and director of dance. "The level of commitment, creativity and innovation is inspiring and we are proud to provide access to in-person audiences as well as to those who will join us virtually through LIVE."

Juilliard Presents Spring Dances 2022 March 23 26 Featuring Choreography By Trisha Brown, Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, And Aszure Barton At The Juilliard School

Spring Dances 2022 features works by choreographers Trisha Brown, Jawole Willa Jo Zollar and Aszure Barton, performed by dancers from the classes of 2022, 2023 and 2024. The program opens Brown's

. The dancers performing it were tasked with learning Brown's original phrases and restoring the structure of the piece, making it unique for 2022.

Challenging the dancers to work as a collective to share stories of movement and belief in oneself to push forward.

Founded in 1951 under the leadership of founder Martha Hill, Dance pioneered the equal teaching of both modern and ballet techniques and established the pattern for training the future leaders of the dance world. Now, under the direction of dean and director Alicia Graf Mack, assisted by assistant director Mario Alberto Zambrano, dance includes ballet, modern and contemporary dance forms. Students are also given opportunities to learn from faculty, guest teachers, and top-level choreographers to create new works.

Juilliard String Quartet Appoints New Member

The School was founded in 1905 and is a world leader in performing arts education. The school's mission is to provide the highest caliber of artistic education for talented musicians, dancers and actors, composers, choreographers and playwrights from around the world so that they can achieve their full potential as artists, leaders and global citizens. Located at Lincoln Center in New York City, offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in dance, drama (acting and playwriting), and music (classical, jazz, historical performance, and vocal arts).
