Let me explain what a rush calendar is, why it is useful, and why it is not always 100% reliable. If you find yourself at one of the Disney World parks, especially on a busy day, we'll help you avoid the crowds as much as possible and make the most of them.

The Disney World Crowd Calendar is based on expected attendance and shows the exact dates the theme park is most likely to be crowded. When planning school calendars, events, holidays, and more, many factors are taken into account, giving you the best chance to go on the right day.
Crowd level isn't the only factor to consider when deciding on travel plans. For a more balanced look, read our guide to the best time to visit Disney World in 2022, including crowds, weather, park hours, prices, and more. We've also ranked our favorite months to visit from best to worst.

Disney World Planning Timeline And Checklist: Updated For 2022 And 2023
As if planning a busy Disney calendar for 2022 isn't difficult yet, things got even worse when the Disney World parks closed last year. To predict what will happen for the rest of the year, we need to look closely at what has happened since the reopening phase began.

It will address whether the same growth is expected in 2022 as crowding levels continue to rise since the park reopened, or if it will drop to the level most predicted.
Since the park reopened, Disney World's existing crowd calendar has been thrown out the window because it has been extremely difficult to predict with any reliability thus far.

While some of our predictions for 2021 came true (overall it was one of the least crowded years in Disney World history), many unexpected factors also hurt us badly. Understanding the crowd this year is harder than ever, so any predictions for 2022 should be taken as a grain of salt.
2021 was an interesting year, needless to say, and we had no idea how crowd levels would react throughout the year. Many unknown factors came into play, such as the current health crisis, the economy, and the willingness of guests to travel in general (which will remain unchanged for 2022).

Walt Disney World is continuing the phased reopening process that began in 2020 with Disney's Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, EPCOT, and Hollywood Studios. Disney refers to the present as a progressive reopening because things are not yet back to normal.

Last year, in general, the level of congestion was much lower than usual. In 2020, theme parks sometimes looked like ghost towns, and in 2021 they were much less, but if you go in the right state you will not have to wait more than 15-20 minutes to take most of the attractions.

In 2021, things started to get quieter in January, some crowds increased in February and things got better in March and April when people started traveling more for spring break and Easter. The park was incredibly busy during the month and it felt like the park was full despite the reduced capacity.
There was a slight lull in May and June, then exploded in July, again feeling like a normal Disney World crowd. Much of this has to do with increasing theme park capacity and returning fireworks to the park.

If you really want to see the numbers, my friends at Thrill-data.com have an amazing chart where you can see the wait times gradually increase throughout the year.
The table above shows the waiting time at Magic Kingdom from 2020 to December 2021. You can see that when the park reopened, the average waiting time for the attractions was less than 14 minutes, compared to 41 minutes at the end of last year.

As in previous years, August and September saw major declines. In fact, the average waiting time for all attractions last September was 20 minutes, the lowest of the year.

October marks its 50th anniversary and things have changed from what we initially thought.

As the holiday season approaches, the park is bustling once again and has been number one and number three in crowds since reopening in November and December last year.
Does this mean congestion will continue to increase beyond 2022? Yes, I think it is very likely.

From September to December there is always an increase in crowds due to spring and summer vacations and school schedules. However, the growth we have seen over the past year has been even greater due to the current health crisis, people are able to travel again, and the capacity of the park is growing dramatically.
The low level last year was due to several factors. Many domestic travelers were hesitant to travel at first, but after a few months they felt more comfortable seeing how Disney handled the changes and procedures. Some procedures would be eliminated, such as wearing a mask outside, which would help attract guests who want to queue earlier.

In addition, many DVC members had to redeem their points on canceled trips in 2020 and early 2021, and were "forced" to Disney World last year to avoid losing their points.

Disney has increased park attendance by more than 35% this year (actual numbers were recently reported). Yes, guests still need to reserve the park using Disney's new Park Pass system, and although numbers are limited each day, crowd levels feel normal again.

Disney CEO Bob Chapek recently said that he will soon increase park capacity in an "aggressive" way. This prospect preceded the recent wave of new cases, but now the park's capacity is expected to grow again as health conditions improve in the coming months.
As Disney operates its parks more efficiently in this new "normal," Disney will expand its capacity to a level where it can operate safely.

Travel restrictions initially played a major role in reducing the crowds, but now US travel restrictions have been eased and borders have been reopened to international travelers. In 2022, people from Europe or South America will have more opportunities to visit WDW, which will help increase attendance.
Next up is the economy. We initially thought that was the problem and that people would have little disposable income for these theme parks and excursions. With consumer spending high and Americans saving unprecedentedly, this was not a big problem for visitors.

All of these are a combination of factors from the current crowd levels seen at Walt Disney World. Some of these factors will continue to improve in 2022, and we expect more people in the park than last year.
