In 2020, Black Lives Matter, which is based on what it says is "a network of more than 170 communities" released its 2016 "Vision for Black Lives Matter" to build "political will and power." Two features of the site stand out: first, that cross-border analysis remains at the heart of all requests; and second, that "the state" represents the source of sanctions that the activists reject

As a list of materials on which activists can make claims. The strategies they offer have identified the "state" as an important platform in the struggle for power, because they also recognize that it is not just one thing, but a mixture of relationships that are local, national, international can be drawn back to other scales. . of the world. The question of how to define and embody the state and its various governance powers is a matter of debate among activists and academics around the world. This special issue welcomes a discussion of how social movements have been conceptualized, organized, and organized around state institutions, with an emphasis on the United States and the understanding that state power and countermeasures are not limited to national borders.

In the United States, the tragic and interrelated systems of profit, discipline and violence at the center of social welfare, war, bureaucracy, control and the cartel state have created special problems for those who want to create visible and disorganized structures of government. . . And contrary to the declared death of the state in the face of the growing power of global institutions and international organizations, "the state" remains an important site of ideological and political struggle in many regions. Moreover, as activists have pointed out, calls for dismantling or rethinking public institutions are complicated by accountability and resource allocation and the growing relationships between nations, states, territories and territories.

The question of how to relate to the state is a major concern in women's, gender and sexuality studies, and the long history of privatization created or permitted by state management has been important to the art and the way the welfare system works. Work, sex, political power, kinship, affection and much more. These questions have come to the fore in recent years as activists have adopted a variety of measures to address ongoing racial violence and the global impact of Covid-19, including eradication, mutual aid or defense of jobs, health and childcare, and Infrastructure. This is all in the context of a resurgence of white supremacist, anti-feminist, ableist and anti-trans public discourse and debates about reclaiming government leadership from the political establishment. These competing forces reflect existing interests in defining the power of different states.

This unique question asks to analyze the long history and various contemporary forms of social change, how different institutions have power and shape the state. We are particularly interested in topics that focus on the theory and practice of social and political movements, in the United States and abroad, at different scales and in historical contexts.

WASHINGTON, DC, April 27, 2022 – The Aspen Institute today announced the 25 semifinalists for the Aspen Community College Excellence Award, adding another step to the award process. The $1 million Aspen Award is the nation's signature award for community colleges that achieve high-achieving, progressive and equitable student outcomes. In recent years, only ten people have been recognized on their way to winning, and this change should reflect the growing number of universities across the country that are doing a good job.

Every two years, the Aspen Awards honor institutions of higher education that excel in five key areas: teaching and learning, graduate and undergraduate, graduate and undergraduate, workforce success, and equitable outcomes for students of color. and minority students. The winner will be announced in spring 2023.
