Arthur Murray Competition Calendar 2023 – Johnny Gonzalez and M.J. Kirchhoff dances Saturday afternoons at the Arthur Murray Dance Center in Temple. The studio opened in June 2021 and is celebrating its first year with a free Ice Cream Social & Sock Hop from 6-9pm. June 24. Johnny and MJ are trainers in the studio.

The first year in business can have more ups and downs than the last dance steps, and Arthur Murray Dance Center in Temple is no exception. But the studio survived – it thrived – and now it's time to celebrate.

"It's been an exciting first year," said MJ Kirchhoff, owner of the studio. "When we opened in June 2021, there was a lot of interest. But school started and everything went slow."

"We had a spike in November – I think people were learning to dance before going to holiday parties," he said. "They liked it and many are still coming."

Temple Dance Studio will celebrate its first year of operation with a huge Ice Cream Social & Sock Hop from 6-9pm. June 24.

"It's going to be a lot of fun," said MJ. "We'll have a set playlist of 1950s songs with different dance styles. We have a group dance class at 6:30.'

MJ said many of the customers who first came through the door last summer are now regulars. He teaches classes and private lessons with Gonzalez from Tuesday to Saturday.

"I'm on the dance floor about four hours a day," she said. "We're very excited and it's always nice to see new faces."

Studio MJ offers training in around 38 world famous dances. So what are the most requested steps?

"We specialize in ballroom and partner dance such as salsa, samba, swing, polka, ballroom, tango, rumba and country – including two-steps and three-steps," she said. . "Arthur Murray is an international organization and they have the most famous dance program in the world."

"They don't have a regional dance program, but that doesn't mean we can't teach it. Speed, for example, is great in Carolina. Arthur Murray doesn't have a program for this dance, but I'm sure they teach it there.'

With years of experience under his belt, MJ has big plans to expand his staff and business.

"I hope that by the end of this year I will bring a third coach, maybe another one in 2023," he said. "Finally, I would like to open on Monday, maybe increase our hours. We are now open from 13:00. up to 10".

"We already have classes to teach children on Saturday mornings," she said. "I do ballet, so it's natural. Dancing – any kind of dance – is a great way to exercise. Barre is designed to help dancers develop certain muscles to help them perform."

"We met at the community theater in Killeen," Johnny said. "We were both involved in West Side Story and started dancing together. We're both from Central Texas."
