Occupational therapists work with individuals, families and caregivers whose quality of life and ability to perform valued daily activities is disrupted by a variety of conditions, including cognitive or developmental problems, injury or illness, social or emotional.

You will also have the opportunity to join the Student Occupational Therapy Association (SOTA) to further develop your professional leadership skills and community service experience.
The School of Health Professions Doctor of Occupational Therapy program is offered at Lubbock University. The first doctoral program in occupational therapy (OTD) applied for accreditation and received pre-accreditation status from the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). The program must complete an on-site assessment and achieve accreditation status before its graduates are eligible to sit for the Occupational Therapist National Certification Examination administered by the National Board of Certification for Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).

As a graduate of the program, you can take the National Occupational Therapist Certification Examination administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). Upon successful completion of this exam, you will become a Registered Occupational Therapist. (OTR). Additionally, all states require a license to practice; however, state licensing is usually based on NBCOT certification exam results. (Note: a conviction may affect a graduate's ability to take the certification exam or obtain a state license.)

Occupational therapists use their clinical judgment and therapeutic skills to implement a work-based assessment and intervention process in a variety of settings, including the home, school, workplace or community, hospital or community setting. The curriculum for Doctor of Occupational Therapy prepares you to enter the field of occupational therapy as a competent, cooperative and caring occupational therapist. This program promotes professional ethics and draws on community experiences to incorporate classroom material into clinical practice. Laboratory sizes are limited to ensure an optimal student/faculty ratio and so that you can gain extensive learning and clinical experience.
Note: The on-time completion rate refers to the percentage of students who complete the program within 3 years. At the same time, the overall graduation rate is based on the total number of students who have completed a program within 150% of the published length of the program according to accreditation criteria. Sometimes students have to repeat a course (ie again). The processing process extends the time to complete the program by one semester for Capstone or Level II graduate courses, or by one year if any course.

Occupational therapy teachers are available and affordable. We are happy to meet with students, whether it is to answer questions about course content, an assignment or future careers.

I'm sure you've heard this countless times before, but I just wanted to say how well the OT program prepared for NBCOT. I am so grateful to be a part of such a wonderful program. I studied for about a month and a half before the exam, reviewing the AOTA PDFs and filling in what I wasn't so sure about in Therapy Ed. But if there's one thing I've realized, it's that you can't study for clinical application. Yes, you can memorize and know the facts well, but knowing what to do with that knowledge is another story. As I studied for the test, I found that I learned critical clinical skills from the program and from all the great professors. And I feel this was a big factor in me clearing NBCOT in my first attempt.
When I did my second rotation at FWII, I was with 5 other OT fieldwork students. By being around them, I realized that I was more prepared for the experiences I encountered during my fieldwork. I know I prepared us well, but seeing it compared to another school made me even more appreciative of the skills and knowledge I learned in such a great program.

Funding Your Education
It is bittersweet that the OT school did it. Finally getting to go out and practice my skills as a new therapist is very exciting.
All of the professors made a lasting impact, not only on us as students, but on every client we met in our careers. The Office of Experiential Programs provides high quality and innovative education and training for physicians, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and other healthcare providers. .

Our goal is to provide a diverse portfolio of course offerings that reach interprofessional platforms and enhance the daily practice of interns as well as the student or resident learning experience while enriching the lives of their patients.
