Pow Wows may be sponsored by a tribal organization, a Native American community, a Native American college student organization, or any other organization that can provide funding to sponsor an event. Planning for a Pow Wow usually begins months or even a year in advance with a group of people called the Pow Wow Committee. The Pow Wow Committee is made up of people who do all the planning leading up to the event. This year's NHBP Pow Wow was organized and sponsored by the NHBP Cultural Committee.

The clothes worn by the dancers are called "Regalia", not costumes. We make everything we dance by hand and don't consider it a costume. The costume looks like something you would buy during the Halloween season.
Respect the Pow Wow Grounds and Dance Arena. If you see trash, remove it. Absolutely no alcohol or drugs are allowed on the Pow Wow Grounds.
Pets are not allowed on the footbridge! If you bring your animals, please keep them away from the dance floor.

Be considerate of others when sitting in the stands. If you see a blanket over a white person, leave it there, because Bee and their family have secured a place for themselves with the blanket. The first row of tribunes is reserved for dancers, veterans, elders and people with disabilities.

We often invite the crowd to dance with us, especially during intertribal songs. Come dance, but be sure to dress appropriately and be respectful when you dance. Men, always wear a shirt; ladies, don't wear revealing clothes.
The holy fire is similar to the prayer fire using sema (tobacco) for prayer. There are four medicines in total: sema (tobacco), sweet grass, cedar, and sage. All are forms of purification and aimed at eliminating negative energy.
The drum is considered the heartbeat of Neshnabek (birthplace or the first type of landing). The Pow Wow Host Drum is the drum group primarily responsible for providing music to the dancers. The Host Drum is responsible for singing the songs at the beginning and end of the Pow Wow.

Principal dancers consist of male and female principal dancers, and sometimes the committee wishes to select a male principal and a female junior dancer. Principal dancers are the first dancers to begin each dance. They also lead the other dancers in the Grand Entry. Often other dancers do not enter the arena unless the lead dancers are outside the dance. Principal dancers are chosen for their ability and knowledge in dances and songs.

The regalia usually includes a fringed scarf draped over one arm and representing nursing mothers to their families.
They can also carry a pocket knife pouch and an Eagle feather fan on their belt. Their Regalia usually consists of beautiful beadwork with colors and designs that reflect their nationality and tribe, performed by a dancer. Most of the patterns seen in Midwestern states are floral designs and forest colors.
It is the oldest form of dance in all of India. Traditional male dancers wear a single headdress of eagle feathers, which is sacred to the Indian people. When dancing, their movements are said to represent hunting and fighting the enemy. Different items worn represent their personal history and tribal nationality. They also wear items similar to those worn by early warriors, such as: Breastplates made of animal bones or skins.
