Huntsville City Schools Calendar 2023 – The Houston Independent School District Board of Education approved the proposed 2022-2023 school year. An academic calendar that adds an extra spring break to April and moves it to the last day of the first semester before winter break.
The calendar includes a one-week Thanksgiving break, a two-week winter break, and a one-week spring break. Students and staff will walk out on Labor Day, MLK Day, Chavez-Huerta Day and Memorial Day. HISD will also be on fall break on October 5th. and two spring breaks on April 7 and 21.

Trustees approved a grant from the Texas Education Agency to support high-quality after-school programming. $882,500 comes from the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) III Fund that will be used to boost student education in the wake of COVID-19. Dollars provide support in three areas: high-quality after-school staff, after-school technical assistance for design and implementation, and instruction in high-impact school programs.
New Transfer Station Will Allow Huntsville To Grow Transit Service
The trustees of the U.S. Approved a $100,000 donation from the Soccer Foundation to M.C. Williams MS. Donations are made through the foundation's It's Everyone's Game and Safe Places to Play programs. Supplies and materials will include a mini court system structure, including LED light poles, play walls, built-in gates, storage, seating, polycarbonate signs, ADA accessible gates, acrylic mini court surface with playing lines, and negotiation. Colors and school logo.
The board also approved in-kind gifts from Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church. The church will donate $30,000 each to Blackshear ES, Cullen MS, Lawson MS and Yates HS. The donation is intended to equip each school's resource room to help students in need. Clothes, toiletries and metro tickets are donated.
