The district released the timetable for the upcoming 2022-23 school year on Monday. It's like this year's event.

GEORGETOWN – If approved by the school board at next month's meeting, the Georgetown School District could retain the traditional academic calendar for at least the 2022-2023 school year.
Teachers will return to class on August 8 and students on August 15 based on the proposed calendar presented to board members at a February 15 meeting.
Veterans Day is designated as a half day for students and staff, allowing them to participate in local events to commemorate the holiday.

The first semester ends after the Christmas break on January 12 and the academic year ends on June 2.
According to the traditional calendar of the current school year, the teachers returned on 11 August and the students started on 18 August. The first semester ends after the Christmas break in mid-January and the school will close for summer vacation on June 3rd.
The district has proposed a rescheduling plan where students would see more days off but start school earlier, which Superintendent Keith Price said many parents objected to.

Price reiterated at the seminar that he wants to hold a public meeting to get feedback that will help the district decide whether to propose a modified calendar in the future.
"Therefore, we did not give up; "We haven't moved forward with it," Price said. We'll have to work with him a little more this season to figure out which way to go."

Although Georgetown State students may see holiday breaks in the future, they are facing premature arrivals as the district adjusts its academic calendar for the next two years.
Georgetown County Plans School Calendar Changes Offering More Breaks, Earlier Start

GEORGETOWN – Georgetown County students may see more vacation days in the future, but they will start school earlier based on proposed changes to the district's academic calendar for the next two years.
District Superintendent of Human Resources Chelice Waites told the school board at the Jan. 18 meeting that when planning the calendar, the board is going through the same year-round model that other South Carolina school districts want to follow. .

The modified annual calendar will allow for eight weeks of vacation and require students to attend classes for 180 days, but the days will be expanded throughout the year.
One of the differences between the two calendars is that students have a week off every quarter. Traditionally, students have one week for Thanksgiving, two weeks for Christmas, and one week for spring break.
Students now have a free week in October, November and April, in addition to the usual two weeks for Christmas and a modified version for the whole year.

Starting with the 2023-24 school year, teachers will start on July 26 and students will leave on August 2. The last day of the semester is December 20 and the school year ends on May 24th.
This school year, teachers returned on August 11 and students started on August 18. Traditionally, the first semester ends after the Christmas break in mid-January. School ends on June 3rd.
To adjust to the new program, the district is planning a bridge year in 2022-23, which will be similar to the traditional calendar, but teachers and students will return to school earlier.

Teachers will begin the next school year on August 1st and students will return to class on August 8th. The last day of the semester ended on January 13, 2022 instead of December 16, 2022.
"I like the idea of the semester ending in December," school board member Bill Gaskins said of the proposed changes. "Instead of cutting that time, between the return of our students and the start of the second semester."
Waits said one of the committee's goals is to complete the class before Memorial Day.

The proposed new calendar is now out to district officials and the public for feedback, and has a first reading for the February 1 school board meeting.
