We'll start with a little thought in January 2023 before going into details like prices, holidays, events, weather, and more.

It usually drops in January / early February before reaching its peak overnight on President's Day. Ticket prices this season are very low.

The 50th anniversary celebrations are underway! The 50th anniversary celebrations are coming to an end. With the holidays in the rearview mirror, expect merchandise / food to return to the 50th anniversary scene, and we might even be lucky to introduce some new items.

The rangers were confirmed for summer 2022 and could arrive in January 2023 and TRON is likely to follow. We are concerned that TRON may not arrive by January 2023, however, keep an eye on it if this is important to you.

Are Disney Crowd Calendars Accurate?

We'll cover the number and events below, but we'd like to start with the dates we need to report. If you are considering these dates for your visit, please note that the general rules do not apply.

December 29 – January 3. It's New Years weekend. This is basically an extension of the Christmas season when it comes to crowds and gimmicks, the holidays usually end before the weekend. If you are visiting during this time, you should read our December post.

January 4 – January 8 (expected). This is the weekend of the Walt Disney World Marathon. There are pros and cons to visiting this weekend (as a non-runner).

January 13 – January 17. This is Martin Luther King Jr.'s weekend, a holiday on Monday, January 16, 2023. Usually this is a holiday not to be missed.

Our position on the Walt Disney World crowd calendar is something that people tend to place too much emphasis on, but it's still good to know.

After an amazing 2021, January 2022 was our first normal January in two years, with moderate to heavy rainfall. Nothing prevents you from visiting us right now, but you shouldn't expect anything to happen in the park these days.

In short, if you can avoid the New Years Eve crowd and the MLK Jr. Day, you will still encounter the usual crowd. The crowds may be thinner on a marathon weekend, but this weekend has its own challenges which we'll cover below.

Events And Holidays To Keep In Mind When You're Planning A Trip To Disneyland

The Walt Disney World Marathon weekend (Jan 5 – Jan 10, 2022) is just past the end of the holiday season and brings some operational changes to the resort (discussed below), but usually comes with a weight loss.

The next big event of the month is the Walt Disney World Marathon, which we'll move on to next.

The Walt Disney World Marathon weekend includes a fair and four races: 5km on Thursday, 10km on Friday, half marathon on Saturday and a marathon on Sunday.

Being a runner (or willing spectator) on a marathon weekend is completely different than being the next guest on the weekend. Even if your only race is 5km, you will appreciate the whole race more, which will eliminate any confusion about receding traffic in and out of the parks.

We ran three marathons (and other Dopey Challenge races) and had a great time each time. You can read about our last visit to the race in 2019 in our Disney World Marathon post (this post has links to entries about other races).

As a non-attending visitor, there are pros and cons of visiting during this time. First, contrary to our expectations, the crowds have decreased this season. This is not surprising, especially on Marathon Sunday.

Although there are 30,000 runners in the marathon, some of them are locals who are here for the run. With every day of the race and its progress, most participants are too tired to spend a lot of time in the parks. Runners will be up at 3am this week, so they won't be late, they'll be tired.

Outside the parks, traffic is routed as runners move along major roads. As a non-jogger, this shouldn't be too much of a problem for you, but it can delay you on Saturday and Sunday mornings, so do your research and plan accordingly.

On Sunday mornings, visitors to Hollywood Studios, Epcot, and Animal Kingdom often see a noticeable runner effect. Magic Kingdom is usually cleared before the park opens, but those arriving earlier may encounter traffic that has already been diverted.

As non-marathon runners, we've never visited the parks, so we can't say for sure how much trouble racing will cause, but honestly, racing isn't all day long. , restriction is important to reduce the amount.

You'll find that January prices at our sample hotels are significantly lower than the rest of the year, making it the cheapest time of the year to visit Walt Disney World. Part of it is just inflation – Disney is raising prices every year, but they are raising prices all year round, so January is always cheaper than December.
