Cfisd 2023 Calendar – Editor's Note: CFISD recently alerted us to a calendar change excluding the February 11, 2022 teacher work day.
CYPRESS – The CFISD Board of Trustees approved the Calendar Committee's recommendations for the 2021-2022 academic calendar at its regular meeting scheduled for January 14, 2021.

State law stipulates that the school year cannot begin until the fourth Monday in August. For the 2021-2022 school year, the first start date is August 23 – which will be the first day of school.

In the spring of 2020, a calendar committee was organized, which developed a calendar for the 2021-2022 school year. The committee is made up of representatives from across the district, including teachers, parents, community members, campus administrators and support staff. The committee solicited input from the public online as it worked to compile a calendar using the 75,600 minutes needed to complete the school year.

The commission recommended to the school board a calendar that ends the 2021-2022 school year on May 26, 2022.
At its meetings, the commission discussed various aspects of the development of the teaching calendar before reaching a decision.

5 of 5 Franklin Sampson, director of administration and guidance at CFISD, was recently elected vice president of the Lone Star State School Counselors Association (LSSSCA).

Based on state legal instructions, the first day of the 2022/2023 school year will be August 22. A committee of teachers, parents, community members and staff created the calendar for the fall of 2021, according to a district news release.

Lone Star College-CyFair is opening its library to the public, allowing them to browse the space and find prizes.
The Print to Your Library program returns to LSC-CyFair Libraries January 24-27, January 31-February 31. February 3 and 7 to 10. Library tours will last a maximum of 30 minutes and no registration is required. Participants can meet at the entrance to the LSC-CyFair Art Center for a chance to win.

"These three weeks of introductory visits are designed to help reduce the library's stress barrier for students and community users," Liz Nebeker, librarian, said in a statement released by the college. "The tour includes library resources and services available to assist in successful classroom and community activities. Come learn the "how to" of the library and meet the librarians who are "specially equipped" to serve you.
Franklin Sampson, director of guidance and counseling for Cy-Fair ISD, has been elected vice president of the Lone Star State School Counseling Association.

"This will be an amazing opportunity and will allow me to continue to focus on others," Sampson said in a press release. "It's always been my goal to do whatever it takes to make a difference in someone's life. Service at this level will help our organization grow to greater heights. I have the unique role of overseeing approximately 300 school counselors, 19 social workers, four mental health counselors, and a substance abuse counselor. I will use my influence to further grow this amazing team."

Cy-Fair ISD had 18 wrestlers medal during the 19th CFISD Invitational Jan. 7-8, including two individual championships.

Cypress Ranch High School wrestlers finished as CFISD's top school, while the Cypress Ranch boys had the best finish of any CFISD team in boys competition.
Kahla Middle School students and staff organized a "Bed Bears" campaign to collect new used stuffed animals for the CFISD Police Department and other police departments.

According to the press release of the district, 160 stuffed animals were collected and will be given to children in need.
Sophomore Kahla Kelsey Jackson and secretary Dolores Frayler organized the trip as an opportunity for students to help others. The trip started on January 5 and ended on January 13.

"This is a service project that contributes to the community," Jackson said. "I've talked to some kids who are struggling financially and I've heard them say that it's great to give your stuffed animals to someone who might need it. They get something in return, but not something tangible. You're doing a good job."
